The 2018 School of Medicine Art Competition & Show is now accepting entries through Feb. 26. The art show, co-sponsored by the Alabama Alpha Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha and the Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences, will be held on Tuesday, April 10, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

InnoHack 2018 chose the opioid crisis as the biggest health care crisis facing Alabama and assigned the 80 competing professionals and students with the task to “hack” for 24 hours and find solutions to the opioid crisis in Jefferson County. School of Medicine student Judi Hakim was on the team that took home first place and won $2,500.

Many patients who live in rural areas will not have to travel as far to see their doctors thanks to a new grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The federal agency granted UAB $495,877 to grow its telehealth network.
