BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) First Thursday Lecture Series will present UAB Professor of Genetics Bruce Korf, M.D., on "Genomics in Medicine: A Disruptive Technology," from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the UAB Spencer Honors House, 1190 10th Ave. S.

Korf, an expert on genetics and the human genome and one of the world's leading authorities on neurofibromatosis type 1, is the Wayne H. and Sara Crews Finley Professor of Medical Genetics at UAB. Earlier this year he was named president of the American College of Medical Genetics. He also recently won the 2009 Award for Excellence in Human Genetics Education from the American Society for Human Genetics (ASHG).

The UAB First Thursday Lecture Series offers college students and the Birmingham community an opportunity to meet and learn from active scholars, leaders, researchers and artists. The series is sponsored by the UAB University Honors Program.
