Grammy Award winner k.d. lang will bring her “Ingénue Redux” tour to Birmingham on Friday, Sept. 14.
Singer-songwriter lang is the first performer in the new 2018-2019 season presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
Western Canada native lang launched her career with a blend of country-rock stylings and playfully punk-like attitude, by turns whimsical and subversive. Back then, she practically put the alternative in alt-country. On this tour, lang celebrates the 25th anniversary celebration of the Grammy-award winning, platinum-selling and critically acclaimed album “Ingénue.”
The season kick-off lobby party with food, drink and live entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free for ASC members. Tickets to the lobby party are $20 advance, $25 at the door. The performance will begin at 8 p.m.
Guitarist Mak Grgic will open for lang; Grgic is an up-and-coming performer in the guitar genre, who programs music as far-reaching as works from the avant-garde and film music to the great classics of guitar repertoire and transcriptions of Brahms and Kreisler.
Performance ticket prices are $87, $77 and $67, with a limited number of $10 student tickets. ASC members may receive $10 off single tickets (limit two). UAB faculty and staff may receive $15 off single tickets (limit two). A limited number of student, member, and faculty/staff tickets are available.
