National Weather Service renews UAB’s StormReady status

StormReady status from the NWS demonstrates UAB’s proactive approach to preparation for extreme weather events.

Stream Storm Ready RenewalThe National Weather Service has renewed StormReady status for the University of Alabama at Birmingham, recognizing its commitment to safety and emergency preparation for hazardous weather events.

The StormReady status means UAB is better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education and awareness. As the community’s vulnerability to extreme weather and water events has increased, UAB has advanced communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property.

The recognition is a testament to UAB’s continuous efforts to improve emergency first responder and citizen preparedness in the event of a natural disaster.  

The StormReady status will last through September 2026.
