Student documentary on human trafficking to be screened Sept. 15

human trafficking posterA documentary entitled “Human Trafficking in Birmingham” will be screened Thursday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall Room 102.

The documentary, created by senior UAB Honors College student Carlon Harris, is part of a course project for the African American Studies Honors Program.

Following the screening, panelists will discuss human trafficking, how law enforcement is working to prevent it and resources that are available for survivors. Panelists include Kathy Taylor, advocate, Robert Blanton, Ph.D., professor in the UAB College of Arts and Sciences Department of Government, Helen Smith, FBI specialist on human trafficking, and Sergeant Anthony Williams of the Birmingham Police Department.

The event is free and open to the public.
