Last Friday, a bus carrying 26 UAB residents from the Department of Pediatrics was involved in a severe accident following a retreat at Camp McDowell. The School of Medicine leadership is extremely grateful to everyone who has been involved in the care for its residents and their families during this difficult time.
Created in 1996, the Argus Awards give medical students the chance to honor their mentors, professors, courses and course directors for outstanding service to medical education. Argus Award recipients and nominees were honored at a reception on Friday, Sept. 7 at the UAB Alumni House.

King, M.D., dean of the UCSF School of Medicine and vice chancellor for medical affairs, will give this year’s Leadership in Academic Medicine Lecture keynote on Friday, Sept. 28 at 8 a.m. in Spain Auditorium. His presentation is titled, “Prepare for Opportunity: A Dean’s Perspective on Leadership.”
UAB has adopted a new tool called Profiles to help faculty with the tracking and reporting of scholarly activities. Additionally, Profiles drives certain data to a public facing website that will showcase UAB faculty in a searchable directory—Scholars@UAB. This companion website is slated to launch on September 14.
UAB’s Center for Exercise Medicine will host its 6th Annual Symposium on Sept. 21, in the Hill Student Center Ballroom.
Anand Iyer, M.D., will receive UAB's Outstanding Young Alumni Award at the 2018 Alumni Leadership and Recognition Awards on Friday, Sept. 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the Alumni House. In 2017 Anand received the UAB Young Alumni Rising Star Award from the National Alumni Society.
