Nursing student receives JANAC Article of the Year honor

Natalie Wilson’s Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care paper presents a conceptual framework and rationale to investigate the link between microbial translocation and symptoms in patients with HIV.

natalie wilsonNatalie WilsonUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing doctoral candidate Natalie Wilson, DNP, has received the Article of the Year award from the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.

Wilson’s paper, “Connecting the Dots: Could Microbial Translocation Explain Commonly Reported Symptoms in HIV Disease?” presents a conceptual framework and rationale to investigate the link between microbial translocation and symptoms in patients with HIV. Wilson’s mentor is Associate Professor Mirjam-Colette Kempf, Ph.D. Wilson is the co-author of the paper with Kempf and others in the School of Nursing.

Wilson will receive a cash prize in recognition for the honor, and will have her conference and accommodation fees waived to the annual conference of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 29-31, where there also will be an awards ceremony.
