The Federal Work-Study Program provides part-time employment for eligible students who demonstrate financial need as established by the U.S. Department of Education. Through the work-study program, you can earn money to pay for expenses while in college and gain valuable work experience for your future.

  • Apply by completing the FAFSA. If you're eligible for work-study, choose from the list of available jobs on HireABlazer, the online career management site of UAB Career & Professional Development.
  • Examples of jobs may include administrative assistant, faculty assistant, library aide, campus runner, tutor, etc.
  • The average work schedule is 16 hours per week.  
  • Work-study positions pay at least minimum wage but possibly more depending on the job and your experience.
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program. Half time for an undergraduate student is 6 semester hours; and 5 hours for a graduate or professional student.
