OUTCOME C7: The UAB counselor candidate understands the principles and purpose of assessment and the collection and use of data.

C7.K Knowledge and Understanding: Knows and understands testing and assessment in terms of: history and philosophy; individual and group approaches; basic concepts of standardized and non-standardized testing; statistical concepts; reliability; validity; factors associated with diversity and cultural differences; strategies for selecting, administering, and interpreting assessment instruments; general principles and methods of case conceptualization, and/or diagnoses; and ethical and legal considerations.

 Demonstrates substantial knowledge and understanding of testing and assessment. Displays a broad and adequate knowledge base and evidences a clear understanding for the criteria stated for this domain.

 Demonstrates exemplary knowledge and understanding of testing and assessment. Displays a comprehensive and sound knowledge base and evidences a clarity and breadth of understanding for the criteria stated for this domain.

C7.P Performance and Skills: Applies knowledge and understand by demonstrating their ability to: review, select, and administer appropriate assessment instruments; identify and procure assessment resources; and interpret a battery of test data and provide a written summary report.

 Exhibits limited competence and judgment in the selection, administration, and interpretation of test instruments. Demonstrates some sensitivity to variables related to diversity. Written reports are not comprehensive, limited in accuracy, or not clearly written.

  Often exhibits competence and good judgment in the selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate test instruments. Demonstrates sensitivity to variables related to diversity. Written reports are substantially comprehensive, accurate, and understandable.

 Consistently exhibits competence and good judgment in the selection, administration, and interpretation of appropriate test instruments. Is sensitive and response to variables related to diversity. Produces comprehensive, accurate, and well written reports.
