Explore UAB

After powering on the laptop follow the on-screen prompts to complete setup. You will need your BlazerID and password to access this device, as well as Duo 2-factor authentication. If you run into problems setting up your device, contact AskIT (see "Get Help", below).

You are assigned a Personal Virtual Desktop with researcher resources (8 CPU, 32GB RAM, 128 GB SSD) along with access to on-premise resources (mapped drives, mapped printers, file storage). All you will need is an internet connection for access.

Microsoft Office Applications are installed on the laptop and on your virtual desktop. Faculty and staff have access to free Adobe Acrobat Pro, and there are a limited number of free licenses for Adobe Creative Cloud as well. Learn more about free or discounted software options at uab.edu/software. UAB IT will load your legal licensed software on the laptop and on your virtual desktop.

Zoom and Microsoft Teams desktop applications are installed on the virtual desktop.

Run software, save your data to the laptop, and transfer it to your file storage when you return to UAB. All data on the laptop is encrypted. Be sure to transfer your data before you return it.
