Max BootMax Boot will give a lecture about guerrilla warfare in history at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 5:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall, 1401 University Blvd., Room 102.
Boot, a military historian and foreign policy analyst, has been called one of the “world’s leading authorities on armed conflict” by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. He has served as an adviser to United States military commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Boot also served as senior foreign policy adviser for John McCain during his 2007-2008 presidential campaign, defense policy adviser to Mitt Romney during his 2011-2012 campaign, and head of the Counter-Terrorism Working Group for Marco Rubio’s 2015-2016 campaign. He has written three widely acclaimed books, including the New York Times best-seller “Invisible Armies: An Epic History of Guerrilla Warfare from Ancient Times to the Present.”
The UAB Belton Y. Cooper Lecture Series is hosted by the UAB Department of History. Lectures on military history and social conflict are presented annually. The lecture series is named after Birmingham-area WWII veteran Belton Cooper.
