UAB expands vision care services to Sylacauga and Talladega

Vision services backed by UAB’s Callahan Eye Hospital now available in Talladega and Sylacauga.

wade blackstone 2The comprehensive vision care provided by UAB Medicine is now available in Sylacauga and Talladega. J. Waid Blackstone, M.D., has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham Callahan Eye Hospital Clinic network of doctors and will see patients at clinics located in those communities.

“I’m proud to join the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital Clinic,” Blackstone said. “I offer a local solution for advanced eye care and a complete range of state-of-the-art services, backed by the broad expertise of UAB Medicine. Patients will also benefit from the depth of groundbreaking vision research at UAB.”

As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Blackstone conducts routine eye exams and treats a variety of eye conditions including complex diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

Blackstone, a graduate of the UAB School of Medicine and alumnus of the UAB Department of Ophthalmology residency program, has been in private practice in Sylacauga for 10 years.
