The six-part series, designed for managers who want to develop or hone their leadership skills, compiles the content most requested by UAB leaders into a series of workshops, online resources and Lynda.com learning and provides personal and team-development tools. “Through this combined approach, our goal is to connect you with the tools you need when you need them,” said Organizational Development Specialist Matt Copeland.

The Management Fundamentals program will examine six topics in two-hour classes held in Medical Towers 419A on the dates noted:

  • The manager's guide to difficult conversations, Feb. 28 and April 25
  • Managing highly effective teams, March 6 and May 2
  • Accountability through performance management, March 13 and May 8.
  • Developing others through coaching, April 24
  • Delegating success, May 16
  • Giving feedback that's heard, May 23

This past year, 163 managers, supervisors and aspiring managers participated in the series pilot program. “We’ve been able to work with managers and leaders across the organization, soliciting feedback on the topics and tools needed most by UAB’s managers and supervisors,” Copeland said.

More than 98 percent of pilot participants surveyed said they expected to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the workshop. “Our participants shared the great value they’ve found in the opportunity to interact, network and share ideas with other campus managers,” Copeland said.
