UAB Student Affairs has exceptional staff members who serve our campus with professionalism, kindness, and integrity. Each month, an employee who exemplifies the Blazer Way is honored based on a pool of nominations presented to the Professional Development Committee.

The April Employee of the Month is Ahkeem Lee, UAB’s Assistant Director of Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs (SMDP). Lee's positive impact on work culture, relationships within the division, and the student community made him a deserving recipient of this honor.

Ahkeem Lee embodies a multifaceted approach to leadership, accountability, collaboration, equity and inclusion, excellence, and innovation in his roles as Assistant Director of Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs (SMDP) and advisor to the Blazer Male Excellence Network (BMEN). Ahkeem's journey into these roles began with a tight timeline, where he seamlessly transitioned from the coordinator in the office of Off-Campus Student and Family Engagement to embracing the responsibility of planning the annual BMEN Gala.

Beyond the Gala, Ahkeem efficiently managed his daily responsibilities as AD, while contributing significantly to events like the Division of Student Affairs Black History Month Program, the Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Step Show, and the ORCA conference.

Dedicated to equity and inclusion, Ahkeem actively engages with students from diverse backgrounds, making everyone feel valued and supported. His friendly and familial approach creates an inclusive environment within SMDP and the Division of Student Affairs.

Ahkeem's proactive, collaborative, inclusive, and innovative approach contributes significantly to the success and positive impact of SMDP and BMEN, creating a vibrant and supportive community for all involved.
