Student Experience

On October 18, the UAB Black Alumni Network hosted the fourth annual "Bridging the Gap" panel discussion as part of UAB Black Alumni Week. The event's purpose, hosted in the Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs office, was to encourage informative conversations and foster connections between current students and accomplished African American UAB alumni.

The event helped create meaningful engagement, mentorship, and networking within the UAB community. 53 students attended the event.

Brittni Tucker, the Owner of the Written Write LLC, moderated the evening's proceedings. The panel, comprised of distinguished UAB alumni, included Timiya Nolan, Associate Professor in the Division of Preventative Medicine; Jamille Alexander of Keller Williams Realty, Alexander & Associate Real Estate Advisors; Jason Walton, Senior Community Resource Representative with the City of Birmingham; Tiffany Borden, a Distribution Engineer at Alabama Power Company; and Christopher White, Co-founder and President of Complete3 Tech Solutions.

"Bridging the Gap" helps create resources for students as they navigate their undergraduate and graduate years while preparing them for what the transition to the professional world could look like while establishing their own paths, traditional or non-traditional. Students were encouraged to take their time to plan their goals and to reach out to alumni for help.

The event, which ran from 6 to 8 p.m. CST, was successful in uniting UAB's past and present to support the academic and professional growth of its students.
