UAB will celebrate its campus diversity January 25-29 with its annual Community Week. This week of free events will provide opportunities for the UAB community to learn about and appreciate each other through various programs such as lectures, discussions, films, volunteer projects and cultural events.
This year’s lineup includes a wheelchair flag football game sponsored by Disability Support Services. UAB students and employees will vie against the Lakeshore Foundation’s team at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, in the Campus Recreation Center.
The 15th Annual UAB International Bazaar is set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Hill Student Center Ballroom. The event is presented by the UAB Multicultural Council and Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs and will feature performances, informational displays and activities with a focus on cultures from around the world. A variety of free international-inspired foods will be available for sampling.

Disability Support Services Wheelchair Flag Football Game

UAB Disability Support Services in collaboration with Lakeshore Foundation’s Wheelchair Flag Football Team will host an actual wheelchair flag football game where UAB students, faculty or staff will have an opportunity to take on Lakeshore’s Wheelchair Flag Football team.

The Hunting Ground Film & Panel
January 26th // 6pm // Hill Student Center Theater
The Hunting Ground focuses on the national epidemic of sexual violence on college and university campuses and how administrations are addressing these issues. After the film, a panel of UAB faculty and staff will be asked to share their thoughts about the film in addition to answering specific questions regarding how UAB is addressing reports of powerbased personal violence.

Reflection on Civil and Human Rights Lecture

Safe Zone 101 Training

This training provides an introduction to gender, sex and sexuality where participants learn basic terminology, campus resources, and what it means to be SafeZone certified. This training is lead by SafeZone Peer Educators and is only open to UAB undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

How Does it Feel to be a Problem?—Panel & Discussion

In the Fall of 2015, four University of Alabama students-A.J. James, Amanda Bennett, Elliot Spillers, and Patrick Maddoxcreated a short film addressing issues of racism and homophobia on campus. Join us for an open discussion with these four students on why they created the film, their experience during the creation of the film, and campus/community/national results of the film going viral.

UAB Hack-A-Thon
