Community Engagement Studios
UAB Rheumatology Community Engagement Studios (CES) exists to provide input to research clinic staff, and to help share information about rheumatology clinical research activities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to the community at large.
The goal of this dialogue between the community and the clinic’s research team is to facilitate research that meets the needs of medical science and the needs of the community served by our clinic, especially clinical trials participants.
The CES provides the community an opportunity to:
- understand the clinical research process;
- provide input regarding the development, implementation and outcomes of clinical studies;
- offer advice related to the accrual and retention of trial participants;
- give clinical trial participants necessary advocacy and a way to address grievance issues;
- build a meaningful partnership that will lead to improved knowledge of rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease; and
- promote ethical research purposes and practices.

Pilot and Feasibility Project
The BIGDATA Pilot and Feasibility project program (P&F) is designed to facilitate the development and design of future high-impact clinical research. P&F projects will be funded with an initial 1-year commitment, with the opportunity to continue for 1 additional year, contingent on sufficient progress and continued need for pilot funding. The PI of each P&F project will present at the annual meeting of the IAC/EAC. PIs of the P&F studies will be strongly encouraged to present their work at local research events, such as the annual CAMBAC Research Day.
