Theresa Caridi, M.D., FSIR, is a clinical associate professor of Interventional Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and medical director for Varian Interventional Solutions, a Siemens Healthineers Company. As a result of her longstanding dedication to the study of women’s health interventions and advocacy for women’s health patients, she holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UAB. After attending the University of Florida for medical school and Radiology residency, Dr. Caridi completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. The first seven years of her career were spent at Georgetown in Washington, D.C., before joining the faculty at UAB to serve as the division director for Interventional Radiology and vice chair of Interventional Affairs for the Department of Radiology from 2020-2023. Dr. Caridi has been an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), serving on the executive council for many years, most recently as chair of the SIR Foundation Board of Directors from 2022-2023. Special interests include the minimally invasive treatment of uterine fibroids and other uterine conditions, pelvic venous insufficiency/varicocele, prostate hyperplasia, knee osteoarthritis, and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. She is a national/international lecturer, reviewer, and active publisher on research related to these topics. Dr. Caridi’s care includes the full spectrum of image-guided procedures and along with her team, she strives to provide treatment for her patients in the same manner she would want for her own family member. Dr. Salei completed his medical school at Belarusian State Medical University in Minsk, Belarus. After finishing his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Pennsylvania, he completed his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at UAB. Dr. Salei then joined the Interventional Radiology faculty at UAB. His areas of clinical interest are Oncologic Interventions (Chemoembolization, Radioembolization and Ablation), Prostatic Artery Embolization, Portal Hypertension Interventions, as well as Kyphoplasty and Interventional Pain Management. Husameddin El Khudari, M.D., graduated summa cum laude with first rank from the Medical College at Garyounis University (Currently Benghazi University) in Benghazi, Libya. Initially, he pursued a career in surgery and obtained the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (MRCS). He then moved to United States where he completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, Massachusetts, followed by an Interventional Radiology fellowship at UAB. He is currently an assistant professor in the Division of Interventional Radiology and the Director of Interventional Radiology Medical Student Education.

AJ Gunn, M.D., graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT earning a BS in exercise physiology with a minor in sociology. He then returned home to South Dakota to attend medical school at the University of South Dakota. During medical school, he participated in the competitive Howard Hughes Medical Institute – National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program and was awarded the Donald L. Alcott, M.D. Award for Clinical Promise. He graduated summa cum laude in 2009. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA followed by a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD where he served as chief fellow. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Gunn worked as an attending interventional radiologist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He has written and lectured nationally regarding image-guided therapies for cancer (including chemoembolization, radioembolization, and percutaneous ablation), uterine fibroid embolization, bariatric embolization, image-guided therapies for trauma, IVC filter retrievals, and patient-centered care in radiology. Currently, he is the Director of the Interventional Radiology Ambulatory Clinic and Assistant Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency. He is active in leadership positions within national societies, including the Society of Interventional Radiology. Clinically, Dr. Gunn practices the full spectrum of interventional radiology and enjoys working with his patients to find therapies tailored to their needs.
