Stuart A. Royal, M.S., M.D., F.A.C.R. completed his undergraduate training at Rice University in Houston Texas, followed by medical school and master of science in graduate school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). After completing his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of California in San Francisco, he completed a Research Fellowship at the National Institute of Health in San Francisco and a Fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston. He then joined the faculty at UAB and Children’s of Alabama in pediatric radiology.

Dr. Royal has served as Radiologist-in-Chief at Children’s of Alabama for over 25 years and currently holds the Pediatric Radiology Harry M. Burns Endowed Chair. He is Medical Director of the Pediatric Radiology section and maintains an active role in resident education. He was Founder and Director of the Pediatric Radiology Fellowship program. Dr. Royal is past President for the Society for Pediatric Radiology and past President of the Southern Pediatric Radiology Society. He serves as a committee member on numerous American College of Radiology and Society for Pediatric Radiology committees. He is a past President and current member of the Society of Chairmen of Radiology in Children’s Hospitals (SCORCH). Dr. Royal served as an examiner for Certificate of Added Qualifications in Pediatric Radiology and was an examiner for the oral boards for the American Board of Radiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.

His area of clinical practice is pediatric radiology with special interest in pediatric genitourinary, cardiac imaging, and administrative radiology.
