UAB online degree programs excel as one of top training programs for educators

UAB’s online degree programs provide quality training for educators and human services professionals.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education has been recognized by TheBestSchools.org for its online training programs for educators. The online degree program for a Bachelor of Science in community health and human services with a human services concentration provides flexibility alongside access to quality internships with community organizations such as the YWCA and the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

The program combines theoretical and practical approaches to the human services field with these topics included: ethics, human behavior, human development, interviewing and intervention, public policy, and social welfare. Graduates with the degree pursue careers in the public and private sectors, including case management, mental health, community health and education, and substance abuse education and prevention, among others.

“Education goes beyond the classroom,” said Eric Plaisance, Ph.D., chair of the UAB Department of Human Studies. “It is about all helping communities and individuals improve their quality of life by using not only your intellect, but also your compassion and perseverance. UAB’s human services program develops leaders who work in communities to develop these skills daily.”

According to the site, the Master of Arts degree in education with a concentration in reading education equips practicing teachers with the instructional strategies and theoretical knowledge to become effective reading specialists. Coursework for the program includes teaching in new languages through reading and writing, pre-K through 12th grade literature, reading assessment and evaluation, and dyslexia research, education and advocacy.
