Brian Johnson has been named director of Residence Life for UAB Student Housing and Residence Life. He joins the university with over eight years of experience in student affairs, housing and residence life. Previously, Johnson served as the assistant director of Residence Life at Fayetteville State University where he was recognized for his efforts in working with the African-American male and LGBT populations.

In his role at UAB, Johnson will oversee the Residence Life component of Student Housing & Residence Life. He will provide leadership to the area with a purpose to cultivate an educational, student-centered and attractive living community. In addition, he hopes to implement a residential curriculum that will create an intentional atmosphere for student learning and development. He also plans to collaborate with faculty to bridge the gap between academic life and the residential environment.

Johnson attended Coastal Carolina and Eastern Illinois universities where he received bachelor’s degrees in business administration, management and marketing as well as a master’s degree in college student affairs. He is the author of several articles in higher education publications, and has been lauded for his work in the American College Personnel Association.
