UAB Student Involvement and Leadership will close out its Lecture Series on Wednesday, March 20 with a talk featuring national political strategist and CNN commentator Symone Sanders.

A champion for women,” Sanders has made her mark in a variety of strategic, political and educational environments. By 25, she worked as National Press Secretary for Bernie Sanders, making her the youngest presidential press secretary. Rolling Stone listed her as one of the “16 Young Americans Shaping the 2016 Election.” In spring 2018, Sanders was one of Harvard University’s Resident Fellows for the Institute of Politics at Kennedy School.

UAB Lecture Series continues to bring student and faculty members together for discourse with prominent figures leading the way for social and political movements.

In theme with Black History Month, Sanders will speak on the topic, “Black History, American History.” Her talk will focus on three key steps to becoming more involved with social issues:

  • Using your voice on campus to react to local and national issues
  • Creating community in adopting intersectionality on campus
  • Making strategies for being a part of “The New Civil Rights Movement”

The lecture will be in UAB Hill Student Center Ballroom C and D. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Sanders begins her discussion at 6 p.m. The lecture will last 45-50 minutes with a 15 minute Q and A afterwards.
