The Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center is hosting the Young Artist Concert Series that highlights up-and-coming musical talents. On Sunday, Feb. 7, Xavier Foley will be the rising artist to watch as he showcases his masterful artistry on the double bass.

Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center offers many exciting events that are available to students at little or no cost. The meet and greet with Xavier Foley is free and begins at 6:00 p.m. in the upstairs lobby of the Alys Stephens Center. Tickets to his performance are also free with registration. The concert will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Jemison Concert Hall.

Foley is a first-prize winner of the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, winner of the 2014 Sphinx Competition and a 2018 Recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant. He has performed recitals at Shriver Hall, Rockport Music, La Jolla Chamber Music Society, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, National Gallery of Art and the Harriman-Jewell Series. An avid chamber musician, he has appeared with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Marlboro Music Festival, Tippet Rise Music Festival, Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival and Skaneateles Festival.

Before the performance, a pre-reception meet and greet will be sponsored by Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs (SMDP) and the UAB Art Alliance as an opportunity for UAB students to ask questions and take pictures with Foley.

“The Division of Student Affairs and SMDP is excited to be collaborating with the UAB Art Alliance to host events like the meet and greet with Xavier Foley. What we are hoping for with this event is to expose students to different forms of artistic expression in music,” said Herbert Wilkerson, director of Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs.

He continued, “Students who attend this event will be able to experience what is to be an amazing performance and be exposed to another genre of music from an African-American performer. We hope that introducing an artist like Xavier will spark inspiration and future creativity in UAB students.”
