Social Justice Advocacy CouncilThe UAB Social Justice Advocacy Council (SJAC) will host Stay Woke Alabama: A Social Justice Conference for graduate, undergraduate and professional students from campuses across Alabama on Saturday, April 8. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m in Heritage Hall, located at 1400 University Blvd. Amanda Bennett, University of Alabama graduate, co-founder of We are Done student activist movement and former Huffington Post editor-at-large, will be the keynote speaker. The day-long conference aims to address the challenges and advantages of doing social justice advocacy work on Alabama campuses. Students engaged or interested in activist work will have a chance to participate in presentations, workshops and panel discussions. Coordinators hope lessons learned will translate into greater activism impact on campuses and communities statewide.

The Social Justice Advocacy Council encourages all current Alabama students to attend. Registration is free and includes swag and meals (breakfast, lunch and snack). Breakfast and check-in begin at 8:15 a.m. Students may also register on-site, but swag and food accommodations will not be guaranteed.
