Supporting Students

From coping skills to safe spaces, Fall 2018 Groups from Student Counseling Services are helping students overcome obstacles that arise during their college years. These workshops have multiple days for students to attend. Here are the Fall 2018 Groups:

 

Doing Better Together - This skills group focuses on learning to cope with stress, regulate overwhelming emotions, become effective in relationships and gain mindfulness. 

When: Every Friday, Sept. 21 through Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Where: Student Counseling Services Conference Room at Student Health and Wellness Center


Resilience After Loss - Join this safe space provided for students to process emotional pain as a result from grief.

When: Every other Tuesday, Oct. 2 through Dec. 11, from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Where: Student Counseling Center Meeting Room (385D)


Find Your #Flow - Experience workshops focused on developing skills in emotional management, stress/anxiety reduction and self-awareness in relationships and oneself. 

When: Sept. 24, Oct. 8, Oct. 22 and Nov. 5, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: Cahaba Room in New Freshman Residence Hall 


The Black Experience: Fellas Let’s Go There - Come be a part of a group that focuses on the challenges of being black at a predominately-white institution. Counseling services and mental health stigma discussions also included.  

When: Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 13 and Dec. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Where: Student Counseling Center Meeting Room (385D)


The Black Experience: Hey Sis Hey - Join a group that focuses on the challenges of being black at a predominately-white institution. Counseling services and mental health stigma discussions also included.

When: Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, and Dec. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m.

Where: The Underground in New Freshman Residence Hall 


BorderTRANS - Participate in a safe space for individuals to share their experiences in a welcoming, supportive environment. This group is open to UAB undergrad, grad and professional students who identify as Trans, Transgender, Genderqueer, Fluid, Non-Binary, FTM, MTF, Two Spirit, Intersex, Gender Questioning and Transsexual.   

When: Sept. 13, Oct. 4, Nov. 8, and Dec. 6, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: Student Counseling Center Meeting Room (385D)
