The UAB Career Center is revamping its online job search platform to make it easier for students to connect with employers and land the career of their dreams. Handshake – the Career Center’s new, fast and powerful recruiting platform for UAB students, alumni and employers – will officially launch August 18, 2019. Students and alumni can use Handshake to easily connect with employers, search for jobs and internships, discover event information and manage on-campus interviewing. Employers can use Handshake as a recruitment tool to identify qualified candidates for open positions and manage on-campus recruitment activities.
Students/recent grads, employers and campus partners are encouraged to check the UAB Career Center website for critical updates and instructions regarding this transition.
See the following key dates:
- Students and Employers | The previous Career Center (Purple Briefcase) account system will deactivate on May 31.
- Employers | Handshake will officially launch for employers on June 3.
- Students | Job search access for students and alumni will be limited from June 1 - August 18.
- Students | Handshake will launch to students August 19. (Students will receive an email invitation.)

Coordinators expect that the new Handshake platform will become a valuable addition to the arsenal of Hire-A-Blazer services. Hire-A-Blazer is an ongoing campaign that highlights the innovative career programs, resources, networking opportunities and success stories made possible through UAB’s Career Center. Handshake – UAB’s new job search platform – launches to students on August 19, 2019. But you can still view employee job postings in the interim. Visit the UAB Career Center Job Board here to search for employment opportunities. Note: Students will not be able to submit resumes or applications to the Job Board directly. Please contact the appropriate hiring representative associated as noted in each unique posting.
The Career Center Job Board will expire on August 18, 2019 (on the eve of the Handshake launch). Once again, we appreciate your patience and can’t wait to see you on Handshake!

If you have an urgent or approaching application deadline and/or job posting that needs to be filled prior August 19, please post on Handshake and/or send the job description to dian@uab.edu. All positions will be available on our temporary job board so that students can contact you directly.
All other job postings can be submitted to Handshake starting today! Again, we appreciate your patience and can’t wait to see you on Handshake.

Please note that UAB Career Center no-longer utilizes the Purple Briefcase job recruitment platform; all profiles, pages and associated web links connected to the Purple Briefcase network will be inoperable after May 31.
If your department, unit or school has previously featured “Hire-A-Blazer, Powered by Purple Briefcase” branding on any digital, web and/or print materials, please ensure the old links and graphics are removed.
