Jonathan
Howard Amsbary is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication
Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He serves as the major
advisor for the Communication Management core. He holds a B.A. in
Psychology and Speech Communication from the University of New Mexico; a
M.A. in Speech Communication from Indiana University; and a Ph.D. in Speech
Communication from Indiana University. He completed the Master Teacher
seminar in 2005.
He has had fifteen articles and two communication books published. He also has two novels in print.
He has taught at The University of New Mexico, Indiana University,
The University of Hawaii, North Dakota State University and The University
of Alabama at Birmingham for a total of thirtysix years. He has been a Visiting Faculty member at the University of Alabama and
Ramkhamhaeng University
in Bangkok, Thailand. He was nominated for
the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award and was named the Teacher of
the Year for the Department of Communication Studies in 1996. He has taught
the following courses: Health Communication I & II, Organizational
Communication I & II, Communication Research Methods, Communication Theory,
Communication and Aging, Introduction to Human Communication, Introduction
to Graduate Research, Small Group Seminar, Interviewing, Persuasion, Public
Communication, Interpersonal Relationships, Personal and Public
Communication, Discussion and Group Methods, Argumentation, Public
Speaking, and Business and Professional Communication. He has coached
debate for Sandia High School, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Indiana
University. He is currently the Undergraduate Director for the department of
Communication Studies.
