Our Scholarship

The Alliance for LGBT Equality at UAB is proud to announce that we are seeking applications for the 2013 Student Scholarship. We are offering one (1), $1000 scholarship to a deserving UAB student demonstrating leadership within the queer community. Students interested in applying should download the application packet from our website and submit all materials to the UAB Office of Financial Aid by July 1st, 2013.
Applicants will be evaluated on the totality of their situations, including academic promise and achievement, demonstrated service to the LGBT community, financial need, demonstrated leadership skills, and present and future goals. The primary goal of the Alliance's Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to deserving students who show promise as future leaders of the LGBTA community - at UAB, within Birmingham, and beyond. The application can be completed either in Microsoft Word or on an Adobe PDF. Links to the application may be found in the column to the left.

If you choose to use the paper form, it provides you with the option of donating to either of our two accounts:
- Endowment account - This is the default account. All gifts to this account are added to the endowment principle, with earnings on this principal used to support awards.
- Spendable earning account - You can check a box on the donation form to select this account. All gifts to this account are immediately available to be spent on scholarships, but do not earn any interest for the account.
2012/2013 Scholarship Recipients
Thanks to our very generous donors, The Alliance was able to fund two scholarships for the 2012/2013 Academic Year. The recipients are freshman Jared Allen Bash and senior Bri Nicole Bruce.
Scholarship Fund Status
On March 1, 2010, The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) formally approved The Alliance's establishing a sponsored scholarship for deserving students who are enrolled at UAB. In June, 2011, donations to the fund exceeded the $10,000 mark necessary to become endowed, thanks in large part to one very generous anonymous donor.
