The Alliance is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for this year's $1,000 Scholarship. Applications in your choice of either Word or PDF form are available below and should be submitted to the UAB Office of Financial Aid no later than July 31st, 2014. All applicants will be evaluated on the totality of their situation, academic achievement, financial need, demonstrated service to the LGBTQ community, demonstrated leadership skills, and present and future goals. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate service to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LBGTQ) community.
UAB employees, present and former, have participated in producing a feature length documentary following the lives of several lesbian families in Alabama, telling their stories of pain, perseverance, strength and humor.
Dr. Ray L. Watts, President of UAB, has very graciously agreed to present the 2014 Scholarship Award to this year's recipient at our annual Scholarship Reception. This will be his second year for presenting the award. The Scholarship Reception has tentatively been set for the late afternoon of Wednesday, August 20th. Mark your calendars now!
UAB President Ray L. Watts, M.D. presented the 2013 Scholarship Award to this year's recipient, Stephanie G. Perry, at our third annual scholarship reception. During his remarks, Dr. Watts spoke emphatically on the importance of diversity and equal treatment for all to the success of UAB.
The Alliance for LGBT Equality is deeply grateful to Dr. Watts, to the UAB Safe Zone Program, to the UAB Development Office, and to Student Accounting, each of whom played a role in helping to make this event possible.
The Alliance is an employee-resource group of The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the UAB Health System (UABHS), the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF), and the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital.
