Mary Louise Snider, Georgia Otis Chipman, Emily Helen Butterfield,
Edith MacConnell Hickok and Flora Knight Mayer.

In the early 1900s, two sisters, Marguerite and Estelle Shepard, talked of the need for a women's fraternity on the campus of Syracuse University. What started as a dorm room discussion of college friendships between these two women would eventually turn into an international circle of sisterhood on and off the college campus. On May 30, 1904 the eleven women pictured above founded Alpha Gamma Delta.

Since its founding, collegiate chapters of Alpha Gamma Delta have been installed on 181 college and university campuses across North America, and over 145,000 women have become Alpha Gamma Delta sisters. Guided by our Purpose, Alpha Gamma Delta continues to be a premiere women's organization that truly inspires women to impact the world.

Our chapter, the Gamma Omega chapter, was founded in 1978 and is the oldest sorority on UAB's campus.
