Rachel HeathA Sunny Spot for Shady People
My name is Rachel Heath. I'm a 20 year old senior going into Health Administration. I plan on furthering my education here at UAB's graduate school when I have obtained my bachelors degree. I am originally from Gulf Shores, Alabama and came to Birmingham to attend UAB. When people ask me what I do, I usually reply: books, rocks, and music. I am interested in philosophy and religion, which is what I spend my free time (away from school text) reading.
My favorite book is How To Be Happy All The Time by Paramhansa Yogananda. I am also a climber. I spend a considerable amount of time climbing rocks around the Southeastern United States (I am in love with the outdoors). My favorite local destinations are Horsepens 40 and Little River Canyon. I am also an aspiring yoga student and hope to soon instruct a yoga class here at UAB. And last but certainly not least, music. I like to think of music as fuel for my soul. I began taking an exceptional interest in music when I was very young. My sister and I (under the influence of my aunt, Marilyn) would dance for hours to Michael Jackson and Pink Floyd. To this day I listen to these artists but have accumulated quite an extensive list of favorite musicians.
My favorite artists range from jazz musicians such as Pat Metheny and Charlie Hunter to progressive artists like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and Thievery Corporation. My show is called A Sunny Spot for Shady People because sometimes us shady folks just need a sunny spot to chill! Listen in every Thursday from 11-2!

Meghan BurkeThe Time Machine
I’m DJ Paradox, born here in Birmingham, AL on the beginning of a new decade: the 90's. Most of my musical influence comes from my parents, who although they were young, introduced me to such wonders as The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, Harry Chapin, and Janis Joplin. I am a huge fan of the Beatles! But being a 90's child, I love Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Oasis, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Alanis Moriessette. Norah Jones, Evanescence, My Chemical Romance, The Postal Service, and Fallout Boy are just a few of my favorites from today’s music. As you can see I have a very diverse and wide range of musical interest, so my show "The Time Machine" reflects that. Every show is a different decade of music, usually keeping in the genre of rock and alternative, but occasionally straying with bits of folk, electronic, and easy listening. I am also very influenced by movie soundtracks so that appears in my show as well.
I am freshman, majoring in Business Management and minoring in either theatre or fine arts. Some of my hobbies include watching movies, musicals, sewing, singing, art, writing, vampires, books, camping, and thrift store shopping.
Listen to my show every Tuesday from 2:30-4 and Fridays from 1- 1:45.
You never know what you are going to hear!
