James A. Mobley, Ph.D.
Director, UAB MSP Facility, Assistant Professor, Surgery
|Office: THT 521|
Dr. Mobley directs the shared facility. He provides initial consultation with new users, with continuing assistance in developing appropriate experimental design and use of technology, and data analysis and interpretation. He also ensures that the shared facility provides cutting edge mass spectrometry and proteomics support for pilot and extramurally supported projects of Cancer Center members. In consultation with the oversight committee and the Co-Director, he oversees utilization of space, instrumentation, and expertise to meet current needs and to anticipate technological advances necessary for future needs.
He regularly interacts with all facility personnel to prioritize facility operations and to ensure that high-quality data, services, and analyses are provided. These interactions include weekly staff meetings to discuss resource goals and weekly meetings with facility users to discuss unusual sample preparations, mass spectrometry approaches, and recent literature. A biweekly meeting with the lab manager Niesje Larson and the Co-Director Dr. Asmellash reviews administration and budget. He is directly responsible for the development of educational and training materials germane to the goals of the shared facility made available to the CCC community, and for all progress reports.
