Domains
UAB URLs are extensions of the root uab.edu (EX: www.uab.edu/brand). While www.uab.edu is the preferred root name, some departments may have alternative third-level domains, such as medicine.uab.edu. Addresses other than uab.edu are rarely appropriate, but there are special situations where .org may be used. The .com extension should never be used.

Friendly URLs
Friendly URLs may be requested to make it easier for your audience to find you. For example, the friendly URL www.uab.edu/president is easier to remember than http://main.uab.edu/Sites/president. If your Web site has a particularly difficult address, we strongly recommend requesting a friendly URL to make your marketing efforts a bit easier.

Friendly URLs and domains are managed by UAB IT, and information requests should be routed through the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. While there is no charge for friendly URL requests that follow the www.uab.edu/ convention, there is a $500 charge for third-level domain request.
