James S. Hagood, M.D.-Extravascular Fibrin Deposition and Lung Fibrosis

Research Description:

Exudation of plasma with resultant fibrin deposition is a commonly early feature of most types of lung injury and often precedes fibrosis, the result of fibroblast invasion into and organization of the fibrin matrix. We study the effects of fibrinogen and fibrin degradation products on lung fibroblast proliferation and expression of cytokines, growth factors, and products which alter matrix deposition. We also explore the signature of phenotypically distinct fibroblast subpopulations in lung fibrosis.
