Dr. Perumean-Chaney is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. Prior to joining the department, she was a Research Assistant Professor in the UAB Department of Biostatistics and was the Assistant Director and Biostatistician for the University of Nevada Reno's Center for Research Design and Statistical Methods.

Dr. Perumean-Chaney is a quantitative criminologist with a primary interest in youth violence. She is particularly interested in school violence and its relationship with the schools' structural and procedural characteristics, climate, connectedness, and fear. She is also interested in youth violence as it relates to homicides, weapon use, victim-offender relationship and the mass media. Her primary statistical interests include zero-inflated negative binomial and Poisson models, propensity score matching, hierarchical linear models, and structural equation modeling.

Her work has appeared in such journals as Homicide Studies, American Journal of Criminal Justice, Journal of School Health, Security Journal, Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology, and Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation.
