Degree Requirements

Students in the graduate program can complete one of two tracks. Thesis Track (Plan I), requires that you complete 30 semester hours of academic credit and a thesis. The Non-Thesis track (Plan II), requires completion of 30 semester hours of course work, a demonstration project (3 hrs), and an internship (minimum of 3 hrs.).

All students must establish and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all coursework undertaken (required and elective). Students failing to do so may be dismissed from the program.


Plan I: Required courses for the Thesis Track
You must complete the following courses:

JS 583 Patterns in Crime (Spring Semester)

JS 600 Pro-seminar in Criminal Justice (Fall semester)

JS 601 Seminar in Criminological Theory (Fall semester)

JS 604 Seminar in Criminal Justice Policy Analysis (Spring semester)

JS 605 Seminar in Criminal Justice Research Methods (Spring semester)

JS 606 Seminar in Data Analysis (Fall Semester)


You must also complete an additional 15 semester hours from available electives and the thesis project.


Plan II: Required courses for the Non-Thesis Track
You must complete the following courses:

We encourage students to enroll in a graduate internship.
