"Songs of Freedom"

Music Presents  
the premiere of "Songs of Freedom" by Glenn McClure.
This UAB Honor Choir concert celebrates the seminal events of the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham and the first signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.  

The concert will feature a world premiere of "The Emancipation Project," a series of compositions by composers Glenn McClure and Michael Trotta, to commemorate the occasion. Performing ensembles will include the UAB Honor Choir, Concert Choir, Steel Drum Band, and the Virginia Wesleyan College Choir, under the direction of Brian Kittredge. McClure's composition was commissioned with the help of a grant funded by the College of Arts and Sciences and the UAB Office of Research and Economic Development.

The premiere will be live-streamed to Ghana, Penn State and Virginia Wesleyan. UAB music students will then present the work at Penn State and Virginia Wesleyan.
