Training opportunities are available through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders (LEND) training program, the University Center of Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), and graduate programs at UAB. The Civitan-Sparks Clinics can provide a unique training opportunity to different basic and clinical disciplines because of the diversity of ages, cultures, and genetic and developmental disorders seen in the clinics.

One area of training we highlight each year is our annual Simpson-Ramsey Symposium. The Simpson-Ramsey Lectureship was established over 30 years ago to honor the contributions of two men who devoted much of their lives to individuals and families with developmental disabilities. Dr. John Simpson and Dr. Joseph Ramsey helped the Sparks Center make great strides in training professionals to care for individuals with developmental disabilities. The overall goal of the Simpson-Ramsey Neurodevelopment Symposium is to highlight translational research in developmental disabilities across the lifespan and from a multidisciplinary perspective, and the poster presentations are intended to highlight student/trainee research to reflect this emphasis.
