Clinical laboratory scientists serve as consultants to laboratory services of ambulatory clinics and physicians' office, and they oversee bedside testing services in hospitals and point-of-care (at the patient site) testing in non-hospital settings. This is a fast developing area with the development of new equipment and the need to produce laboratory results rapidly to enhance patient care and the increased provision of health care out of the hospital. Activities include assessment of instruments, cost accounting, development of inventory controls, establishment of testing and reporting protocols, monitor of quality and teaching personnel.
