Vision

Implement a training program at the interfaces of physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, and biomedical engineering that will reduce the time from discovery of a new tool in nanotechnology to its application in medical devices, tissue engineering, and biosensors for earliest detection of molecular signatures of disease.

The programmatic innovations in the areas of education and training are as follow:

  • Newly developed Nanotechnology Core Coursework
  • Exploratory laboratory rotations
  • Special Skills Workshops – Communications, Career Development and Computations
  • A full Semester of Industrial Internship
  • Interdisciplinary Academic Schedule

Text Box: Benefits to Graduate Students:
Graduate Stipends of $25,000/year
Full tuition and health insurance
Travel Award of $1,000/year
Graduate students will be involved in the interdisciplinary research in the following areas:

  • Nanostructured Porous Polymeric Biomaterials
  • Nanostructured Porous Ceramic and Composite Biomaterials
  • Bioreactors for Tissue Engineering
  • Cell Biology on Nanostructured Scaffolds: In vivo and Translational Research
  • Optical Nanobiosensors and Fiber-Optic Biosensors
