Composite Manufacturing and Engineering Plastics Laboratory The composite materials laboratory is pursuing research in innovative materials development and manufacturing of advanced materials for different applications in the military, transportatoin, civil, automotive and aerospace fields. These activities are supported by a number of projects and collaborations with the National Composite Center in Kettering (Ohio), the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and private business partners in the composites area.
The laboratory includes over 6000 sqft dedicated to research activity in the areas of thermoplastic and thermoset matrix composites with the following manufacturing capabilities: thermoforming, hot melt impregnation, compression molding and VARTM.
