Established
in 1989, under the leadership of Director John W. Rogers, Jr., the Minority
Business Training and Development Programs at UAB Special Studies provide
noncredit courses and seminars, as well as technical assistance aimed at
meeting the needs of minority business owners. The programs are operated
in conjunction with a voluntary council comprised of more than 30 minority
professionals who are business owners, educators, business management,
federal and city government administrators, ministers and civic leaders.
Our Mission
The mission of the Minority Business Training and Development Programs is to train and empower socially and economically disadvantaged individuals to become successful entrepreneurs and full participants in the mainstream national economy.
Minority Business Training and Development Programs have four major goals:
To Increase the number and effectiveness of minority entrepreneurs
To Provide educational programs and technical assistance to individuals and organizations desirous of acquiring entrepreneurial expertise
To award scholarships to qualifying business owners that will allow them to earn UAB Special Studies Business Management Certificate and the Builders Management Certificate which includes training in computer applications, management applications, finance, safety and personnel issues
To contribute to the development and expansion of minority youth entrepreneurial training
