Comprehensive Cancer Center Fund-Raiser Continues Success
For the second year, ArtBLINK was the centerpiece of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Advisory Board’s 2009 Gala. The event raised $855,000 for the center’s Fund for Excellence—well over the board’s goal.
Twenty Alabama artists gathered at The Kirklin Clinic on February 28 to create art in a flash for ArtBLINK. Each artist had 90 minutes to produce a masterpiece, which was then auctioned to members of the audience by Ken Jackson, president of Dudley C. Jackson Inc.
“It is with heartfelt gratitude that I thank our artists, the community, and the Cancer Center’s advisory board for the tremendous amount of support that it took to pull off an event of this magnitude,” says Ed Partridge, M.D., director of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. “The funds raised will give the center an opportunity to provide increased funding for research and patient-care initiatives.”
Patron sponsors included Birmingham magazine, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, Burr & Forman LLP, Colonial Properties Trust, EBSCO Industries, FOX-6 News, General Machinery Company Inc., Medical Properties Trust, and Vazda Studios. “In essence,” Partridge notes, “the support of our community allows us to live our mission. I am honored to be a part of this generous community.”
