webonly_regions“We have five values at Regions, words we liveand work by every day,” says C. Dowd Ritter, president, chairman, and CEO of Regions. “One of those values is ‘Reach Higher,’ and that is reflected in our commitment to help young people pursue academic excellence. UAB is a premier university that helps prepare students in a wide range of fields. We’re glad to help further the careers of our future community leaders.”

Established in 2002, the Regions Academic Scholars Endowment is a merit-based scholarship program created to assist UAB in attracting America’s next generation of scholar-leaders and to help assure that the most gifted students consider UAB as their first choice for a college education. The Regions Academic Scholars honored at this year’s luncheon on January 13, 2009, were Anand Bosmia, a senior majoring in philosophy; Clarence Gill, a junior majoring in biology; Lauren Nolen, a sophomore majoring in biology; and John Bouldin, a freshman majoring in electrical engineering.

“My gratitude to the sponsors of this award knows no bounds,” Bosmia says. “My deepest thanks goes to every individual associated with the creation and distribution of the Regions Academic Scholarship.”

Gill adds, “It is a tremendous honor to hold the title of recipient of the largest academic scholarship offered at UAB.”
