Passionate About Compassionate Care
Betty Morrison Honored at 2010 Palliative Care Dinner
Passion for Compassion, the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care’s eighth annual benefit, honored Betty D. Morrison for her longtime commitment to raising awareness of palliative care in the community.
“Betty is a founding member of our Community Advisory Board and has been a champion for our center from the beginning,” says center director Christine Ritchie, M.D. “Many people don’t know what palliative care is until they face a serious illness, but Betty has committed herself to linking people in need to the special kind of care we can provide. She exemplifies the caring heart, and we are so grateful for her ongoing support of our mission.”
Event proceeds, including a title sponsorship from The Thompson Foundation, will fund psychological and nutritional counseling, grief support, art and music therapy, and other services not covered by insurance reimbursement. “Because of our generous donors, we are able to serve more patients and their families in our inpatient unit, outpatient clinic, and our hospital consultation service,” Ritchie adds. “Philanthropy makes so many good things happen in our program, and so do friends like Betty.”
