Silver Anniversary
UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Hosts 25th Annual Fund-Raiser
ArtBLINK Gala 2010, the 25th annual event benefiting the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, raised more than $840,000. Held on February 27 in The Kirklin Clinic, the gala featured 19 top Alabama artists, each working to create a masterpiece in 90 minutes before the eyes of attendees.
“ArtBLINK has been a fantastic addition to our annual Cancer Center gala, and we are so pleased at how the event continues to grow and bring in new donors,” says Edward Partridge, M.D., Cancer Center director. “We also are extremely honored that our ArtBLINK artists keep returning each year to respond to the challenge of creating a masterpiece in the ‘blink of an eye.’”
Participating 2010 ArtBLINK artists were Ahmad Austin, Xander Booker, Gary Chapman, Vicki Denaburg, Randy Gachet, Karen Graffeo, Lila Graves, Buffee Hargett, Bethanne Hill, Darius Hill, Jane Marshall, Fran Nagy, Nall, Susan Oliver, Amy Pleasant, John Pleasant, Linda Ellen Price, Ricky Trione, and Paul Ware. The art was auctioned that evening by Guin Robinson and CBS 42’s Sherri Jackson. Sponsors included Birmingham Magazine, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, Burr & Forman LLP, Colonial Properties Trust, EBSCO Industries Inc., Medical Properties Trust Inc., Protective Life Corporation, and UAB. Emmie and Herman Bolden of Vestavia Hills were recognized for their many years of generous support of the Cancer Center. Since 1976, the Boldens have been dedicated to key projects at the center and served as volunteers. They were charter members of the center’s advisory board, remaining active for more than 20 years.
Partridge adds, “The more than 30 years of support that Emmie and Herman Bolden have given the Comprehensive Cancer Center has been invaluable. That support has come in many forms—their time, wisdom, a ‘pat on the back,’ and substantial monetary support for our programs. It is truly a blessing to have these two people as dear friends of the Cancer Center.”
