The School of Education within the College of Arts and Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham http://main.uab.edu/ is seeking applications for the following positions. The minimum requirement for each is listed below. Each position requires a degree in the appropriate area and willingness and ability to work collaboratively with other faculty within the school. Experience in acquiring external funds and experience or training in urban-educational settings is highly desirable, as is recent K-12 experience. Counselor Education tenure earning Assistant Professor – Special Education (Tenure Track) Doctorate in special education (or closely aligned field) is required with field-based experience that is blended/unified across both special and general education. Training and experience in working with K-12 students with high and low incidence disabilities is highly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in grant writing, working in urban environments, and proficiency in the use of instructional technology. Strong evidence of teaching ability, potential for achievement in scholarship, and commitment to service in the community and profession is required. Assistant /Associate Professor - Literacy Education (Tenure Track) Doctorate in reading, literacy, curriculum and instruction, or related field required with a minimum of 30 graduate hours in a literacy field. Teaching experience in urban settings and in other curricular areas, such as English as a Second Language, is desired. Position includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising students, writing grant proposals, conducting research, publishing, and working collaboratively with local school systems. Candidates should have a commitment to diversity issues and be able to integrate technology in teaching. Assistant Professor - Early Childhood/Elementary- Generalist (Tenure Track) Doctorate degree in early childhood, elementary education, or closely related field with a minimum of 30 semester graduate hours in either early childhood or elementary education. Candidates should have a commitment to diversity issues and be able to integrate technology in teaching. Assistant Professor - Early Childhood/Elementary- Generalist (Non-Tenure Track) Doctorate degree in early childhood, elementary education, or closely related field with a minimum of 30 semester graduate hours in either early childhood or elementary education. Candidates should have a commitment to diversity issues and be able to integrate technology in teaching. Assistant/Associate Professor of Social Science Education – Secondary (Tenure Track) Doctorate in social science education, or closely related field, with at least three years of experience teaching in a secondary social science classroom. Strong evidence of teaching ability, potential for achievement in scholarship, and commitment to service in the community and profession is required. Assistant Professor – English Language Learner (Tenure Track) Earned doctorate in Applied Linguistics, Modern Languages, English, English as a Second Language, English Language Learning, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, or a similar field from a School of Education or from a Department of English or Modern Languages; minimum of 27 graduate semester hours in ESL teacher education courses; and teacher certification in ESL or a language other than English. Instructor - Reading Education (Non-Tenure Track) Masters Degree in Reading Education, Language and Literacy Education and/or Elementary Education, or a closely related field.
