Alternative Masters Teacher Education Program

The Alternative Master’s Program (AMP) is designed for individuals with a baccalaureate degree in a non-teacher education program who wish to become certified teachers. The program is also available to certified teachers who wish to change their teaching field. Students who complete the Alternative Master’s program receive a master’s degree in education (MAE) from UAB and will be eligible to apply to the Alabama State Department of Education for a Class A (master’s level) teaching certificate.
The Alternative Master’s Program is available for the following teaching fields:

Collaborative Teacher (grades K-6)
Collaborative Teacher (grades 6-12) 
Early Childhood/Elementary Education (grades P-6)
Early Childhood Special Education (birth – age 8)
English as a Second Language (ESL)
English/Language Arts
French
General Science
General Social Science
Health Education
History
Mathematics
Music – Instrumental (grades P-12)
Music – Vocal/Choral (grades P-12)
Physical Education
Physics
Spanish
Visual Impairments (birth - age 21)
