Get Involved!
So, you just joined the EMIG and you want to Get Involved! Here's a quick list of ways that you can: 1. Be present: Your attendance at the EMIG functions is key to getting involved. Not only will you learn much about EM, but you will also get-to-know other UASOM students who have gone before you and can bestow some wisdom. Navigating your way from MS-I to residency is tough, and your classmates are a vital part of your success. Don't pass this opportunity up! Also, you will also get-to-know EM faculty members at UAB, which will help you to establish some mentorship. For those who aren't sure to those who have decided in EM, you can't lose by finding an EM faculty member to help guide you through the process. Be present to learn! Be present to connect! 2. Be proactive: One day when you are working in an Emergency Department somewhere, being proactive is a key character trait that you must possess to be successful. Everyone entering EM also must understand that residency directors are searching for those proactive students who take initiative and make things happen. The EMIG is also searching for those students too! There are many opportunities for you to develop a project or to create something new for the EMIG. Just ask any officer [link to officer list]! 3. Be positive: No poopy-pants allowed. 4. Be productive: Accomplish something! Do something that lasts! Make your mark on UASOM! Our EMIG offers you the chance to demonstrate your ability to accomplish tasks and show off what you can do. 5. Run for an office: Elections are held at the end of every academic year. Check this website and our mailing list for announcements! We know it sounds
open-ended, but the power is in YOUR hands to make things happen. We always
welcome volunteers to help out with events and leaders to
help us develop and implement new ideas!
