Who are we?

EMIG's mission statement:

The UASOM Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) is a student-run organization that promotes awareness of and interest in the medical specialty of Emergency Medicine (EM). We hold monthly meetings that are open to all UASOM students at which we discuss topics that are of general interest to all students. Plus, we hold special meetings for those interested in a career in EM to help inform, guide, and advance those students through the process of getting into an EM residency. We also promote skills workshops at which we teach students about suturing and reading chest x-rays. We also exist to help further EM as a field of medicine at UAB in many ways, particularly with our upcoming petition drive for an EM clerkship. We are excited about the growing interest in this field and invite you to join us.

Our goals for the 2004-2005 school year:

· Increase EMIG membership
· Increase EMRA/ACEP membership at UASOM
· Increase attendance at national and regional conferences in EM

· Continue activities such as the suture workshop and X-Ray workshop
· Continue monthly lecture series
· Establish good relationship with the local EM residents
· Provide a resource to medical students for EM information
